If you're a nurse dreaming of becoming a permanent resident (PR) in Canada, this blog is for you. I’ll walk you through exactly how I achieved my PR in 2025 — step-by-step, with real dates and personal insights.
🩺 Step 1: Get a Full-Time Nursing Job
Before you can apply for PR through the Express Entry system and Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), you need a full-time, paid nursing job.
✅ Full-time = at least 30 hours per week
✅ Paid, official employment
I was already working in a hospital here in BC under a valid work permit
📝 Step 2: Create Your Express Entry Profile
📅 Date Created: March 6, 2025
This is where the journey officially begins. Once submitted, you’ll receive an Express Entry profile number, which is needed for your PNP application.
🌲 Step 3: Apply for Provincial Nomination (BC PNP)
📅 Submitted: August 13, 2024
📬 Nomination Received: August 20, 2024 (only 7 days!)
Details:
🗂️ Category: Skills Immigration
📌 Stream: Express Entry BC – Health Authority
💵 Fee: CAD 1,475
This nomination gives you an extra 600 CRS points, which boosts your chances of getting invited under Express Entry.
✉️ Step 4: Wait for the Invitation to Apply (ITA)
📅 Received ITA: March 17, 2025
After receiving the provincial nomination, I waited for the Express Entry draw, and I got the golden email! You’ll only receive this if your CRS score is high enough after the nomination.
📤 Step 5: Submit PR Application
📅 Submitted: April 6, 2025
💵 Fee: CAD 1,610
You have 60 days from the date of ITA to submit all your documents.
👆 Step 6: Biometrics
📅 Completed: April 28, 2025
You’ll receive a letter with instructions on where to go for biometrics. Mine was quick and smooth.
💻 Step 7: Confirmation of PR Portal
📧 Email Received: May 8, 2025
📅 Case Submitted: June 6, 2025
Once your application is approved, you’ll receive access to the PR Confirmation Portal. Here’s what you need to do:
✅ Confirm you’re physically in Canada
✅ Provide your Canadian mailing address
✅ Upload a digital photo for your PR card
You have 7 days to complete this part!
🎉 Step 8: eCOPR (Electronic Confirmation of Permanent Residence)
📅 Received: June 26, 2025
This is the moment you become a permanent resident in Canada! 🥹✨
💳 Still Waiting for PR Card
As of now, I'm still waiting for the physical PR card. It can take up to 50 days, so hang tight!
